Cicada
When Edie and I were little we would hang cicada shells all over our shirts. Anna and I tried to find some today. We only found two, but we found a live one, too! (I didn't bring that one home for the photo...)
Yep! They crawl out of the ground looking like that and then they pop out of that skin with new wings, climb to the top of the trees and buzz. They leave behind those shells. The claws are still sharp enough to hang them pretty much anywhere you want.
The live one we found was gross. If their heads and bodies weren't so ugly and big, the wings might be pretty.
Gross. I've seen those shells before, but I never knew they belonged to cicadas.
