Mom's early birthday present.

We still had a dozen more trips back and forth in the car. By this point, we were over tired and giddy. Everything was funny.

When my mother died, her cousin's wife gave Edie and me these statues of a woman holding a gold heart over her heart. I don't normally like things like this, but because it came from her and it meant so much to her that we have them, it means that much to me. Joe noticed that she was mysteriously turned around on her shelf to face the wall and a tiny portrait of us. It took us a while to figure out it must have been the guys installing the window who turned it around. CREEPY!

As I was reorganizing and downsizing today, I came across my recipe box and found some of the first recipes my mom hand-wrote to me when I was first living on my own. I made some of these recipes in our apartment together when we were roomies. :)

When I was sick, my mom bought me cupcakes all the time from Food Lion to fatten me up and also make me happy. Tonight, as I was on the phone with her in the grocery store, I spotted these for $2.99 and had to get them. I was feeling nostalgic.
